Wheeling Jesuit University, or WJU for short, is a private, co-educational Roman Catholic university in Wheeling, which is a city in the US state of West Virginia, that serves as the county seat of Ohio County, having a population estimated at a number of nearly 29 000 inhabitants, during the 2009 census.
WJU was established in 1954, being founded by the Society of Jesus, as Wheeling College. It is one of 28 member institutions of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities and its campus houses 2 prominent National Aeronautic and Space Administration buildings: Robert C. Byrd National Technology Transfer Center (NTTC) and Erma Ora Byrd Center for Educational Technologies (CET), the last being the official home of NASA's Classroom of the Future.
The university currently has an enrollment of approximately 1200 undergraduate students, and it is highly rated for its academics being given a selectivity score of 81 out of 100, by the Princeton Review.
Wheeling Jesuit's athletic teams are known as the Cardinals and they compete in NCAA Division II, West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Their distinctive colors are red, black and gold.
Among WJU's famous alumni, there are: Michael Mulligan - former MapQuest CEO, Remy Munasifi - stand-up comedian, John M.
